The Future of Internet

Internet Between Present and Future

The Internet is undoubtedly a very important resource for our present and will be increasingly so over the years. Over the last few years the network has improved a lot, just think of the connection speed that we can achieve today through the use of optical fiber and in the future the 5G network.

Today, in fact, more and more people can have access to an ever faster and safer internet connection to carry out any type of business. From the world of work to that of school, any area has improved thanks to the internet and this is helping us to be more and more efficient in various activities. But that is not all. Today the internet is a very important resource for entertainment as well. It is in fact possible to spend your free time watching a TV series, but also using other pastimes such as card games. Without forgetting, then, the enormous use of the network in the field of social networks which represent phenomena in worldwide expansion which really seem to be unable to do without.

The Future of the Internet – 5G and 6G

While the world is waiting to finally embrace the 5G revolution, there are those who have gone further and are aiming for the future thanks to 6G. According to experts, this is a technology that we will be able to use starting from 2030. The major novelty that 6G will bring with it will be the zeroing of latency which will favor instantaneous communication. In addition, according to experts, 6G networks will be ten times faster than 5G, with the ability to support transmission of 1 Terabit per second. Also theoretically, therefore, the 6G will allow to connect thousands of machines, sensors, software, in an even more massive way than 5G.

It will therefore be a fundamental technology to make us definitively enter the world of the Internet of Everything that will connect people, data, processes and things. In short, a large, all-encompassing network.

6G Network

But that is not all. According to experts, 6G will also allow the management and processing of more and more data, thanks to an artificial intelligence that will be pervasive and a superior machine learning capacity. All this will be possible thanks to a dialogue between the various connected objects that will allow decentralization of communication between things and this will allow the decisive increase in the performance of telemedicine, electric mobility and self-driving cars.

Furthermore, direct communication between objects could also make the use of our smartphones useless. Furthermore, from the energy point of view, the new 6G technology will be able to be more energy efficient, since it is foreseeable that the devices on the network will not only exchange data, but also energy. All through a system of smaller and more widespread, but also safer, antennas. For the experts they will have a lower power, they will be better localized and efficient. Also from an infrastructural point of view, 6G will be a more decentralized and distributed model.

In this scenario, one of the sectors that will be most affected by the development of the internet in the future will be that of medicine. Already today we hear more and more about digital health, but in the near future this topic will be more and more central. Thanks to new technologies it will be possible to trace and analyze in real time a large amount of data that will be useful for the creation of innovative and “tailor-made” treatment paths according to the specificities of each patient.

Digital Therapies

In the future, we will hear more and more often about digital therapies that will be able to reduce the associated costs of assistance, for example by allowing the reduction of hospitalizations, preventing pathologies or slowing their course.

According to experts, in fact, digital technology can prove to be a useful tool for promoting and facilitating the doctor-patient relationship, thus ensuring continuity of access to care, even in times of emergency”. And it is for this reason that investments from this point of view have grown in recent years, calculating that there has been a mobilization of capital equal to about 5 billion dollars, with a projection of about 9 billion dollars by the end of 2021.

And this scenario also includes apps and various digital solutions that can promote the adoption of a healthy lifestyle for the management or prevention of diseases. Furthermore, I would add the theme of ‘patient centricity’, that is, how to involve the patient by making him a protagonist in the management of his own health and care path.
